Passing on experience through the generations at G K & N Services

Back

Not only does G K & N Services provide opportunities for young people starting out on their careers but also to members of the “older generation”.

Dave Towers, who having worked hard since he was a mere boy, might be forgiven for wanting to put his feet up at 72 years old. But far from pottering around in his slippers, Dave puts on his safety boots and sets to work on rebuilding and remounting tankers at G K & N.

Dave’s experience comes from years of running his own manufacturing business in the same industry and now he’s passing that experience on to Jack who joined the company straight from school 4 and a half years ago.

Between them the two men are able to strip down, refurbish and fully rebuild tankers – giving them a 2nd and even 3rd life. All major components can be refurbished or upgraded to bigger and more powerful pumps, and other facilities can be added; increasing tank or jetting reel capacities

Karen Elsy said, “Employees’ ages aren’t an issue for G K & N. We select those who are best for the work that needs to be done. It’s great that we can have continuity in our shop floor processes and office procedures. Dave is passing on his experience to Jack, and in time Jack will be able to pass that experience on to someone else.

“We’re a small team, so it’s important that we get on and work together to get the job done and make sure our customers are happy with the work we do.”

Jack recently passed his driving test and this means he will also be able to go out in the company’s new van to service welfare tankers on site.
