G K & N develop a bespoke standpipe and hydrant bag

Unblocking and cleaning and drains can be a pretty dirty task. Minimising the risk of cross-contamination between the equipment used for unblocking and that used for cleaning is vital.

When G K & N’s busy customers told us that they were having difficulty keeping the clean standpipes and hydrants separate from the dirty drain rods, we looked at what we could do to make their lives easier.

Some had already tried using drain rod bags to carry the standpipes in, but as they weren’t quite the right size and there was always the chance that clean pipes could be put into the wrong (and dirty) bags, they weren’t ideal.

So the team at G K & N set about designing a bespoke carrying bag for the standpipes and hydrants. The initial prototype was made of polythene, which kept everything clean, but wasn’t really robust enough to stand up to the tough day to day requirements of a drainage engineer.

Canvas proved to be a much better material for the job, and the result was a very strong bag, complete with a carrying handle and a simple Velcro closure.
