Accessing the inaccessible with a Remote Jetting Reel

When M W Waste, based in Richmond, North Yorkshire secured contracts to service sewers on land owned by the Ministry of Defence and Yorkshire Water it found itself with the problem of accessing some of the drains it was required to flush.

With sewers running under woodland and moors some of the manholes were situated deep in wooded areas or in the middle of wild moorland, where even the smallest Jet Vac tanker with the longest hose couldn’t reach.

Fortunately, M W Waste found a solution to these difficulties – the remote jetting reel.

Of course flushing drains with water at high pressure in the middle of a wood isn’t an everyday task – even for M W Waste, so initially the company hired a remote jetting reel – made by G K & N – as and when it required one.

However as the business expanded and the company received more requests to flush drains in awkward places M W Waste decided it was time to purchase its own kit.

Visiting Tank-ex in Harrogate in June this year, Keith Chadwick, General Manger at M W Waste, met with Gary and Karen of G K & N and placed his order. Within a month he’d taken delivery of a brand new remote jetting reel and wasted no time in setting it to work.

Keith explained, “We take a Jet Vac tanker and park it as near as possible to the area we’re operating in. Its hose is attached to the remote jetting reel; the operator stands on a platform on the back and drives it into the area where it’s needed. The reel also has another 200m of hose, which gives us a total reach of more than 300m from the Jet Vac tanker. We can then blast high pressure water through the drains to flush out any blockages to keep sewers flowing freely.”

“We’re just in the process of training additional staff how to use the remote jetting reel safely and effectively before it goes out again. They’re finding it really simple to use, a bit like driving a tank, with 2 sticks for forward and back. It is going to be a great asset to our business.”
