Larger spray booth at G K & N means better customer service

Back

Always looking to improve its capabilities, G K & N Services has recently made further investments on its manufacturing site at Scholes to upgrade its spray booth facilities.

The booth has been extended so that the company can spray even the biggest tankers, and fitted with eco-friendly lighting which is more energy efficient, and is already proving to be a real asset to the company’s customer service.

Prior to the spray booth being extended, G K & N was reliant on a third party to spray the larger tanks that it manufactures – and that sometimes led to delays in projects being completed.

Now though the company has full control of the process from start to finish and can schedule a paint job to fit in with the deadlines it sets itself for customer delivery.

Using 2 pack automotive paint a clear base coat is sprayed onto to the bare metal tanks before coloured paint is applied over the top. Any colour can be used, according to customer preference.

The extended space means that even the largest tankers can be sprayed as a complete unit – after they have been mounted on the vehicle – although there is still the option to wheel the smaller vessels into the booth on “dollies”.

Managed by Dave Hirst, a fully trained paint sprayer with 35 years’ experience, the increased workload in the spray booth has created an opportunity for new recruit Peter Manx who recently joined G K & N as a labourer. Dave is training Peter in all aspects of paint spraying  -- which includes ensuring Peter is able to complete the work following COSHH guidelines in relation to health and safety regulations for methods, equipment and materials being used.

As well as the tankers, the 2 man team also sprays the mesh baskets, shutes and other metal fabrications that are made in the workshop, before they are fitted to the vehicles.
